Where Have All The Goals Gone?
By: irish_steve | October 8th, 2008The Fire and Kansas City to a 1-1 draw Sunday to the disappointment of the 40 or so traveling fans from Chicago. The Fire had a goal ruled out for offside before Blanco converted a free kick on the stroke of half time. KC scored in the first minutes of the second half and to be honest, there wasn’t much more action following that. The Fire are lacking a consistent goal scorer and it is really beginning to hurt them. The slow pace of the front two (McBride and Blanco) was again plain for all to see. Its ironic how in my opinion the Fire’s best scorer over the past few seasons, Chad Barrett was traded to Toronto and bagged another 2 goals for them over the weekend, while the Fire have only scored more than 1 goal in 1 of its last 8 games. Mapp should have been the player that the Fire shipped off instead of Barrett.
Mapp put in another lackluster performance and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him on the bench again this weekend with Marco Pappa back to full fitness. With New England tieing on Saturday, the Fire had a major chance to overtake them and claim 2nd place in the East but the opportunity will have to wait for another week. If the Fire dont overtake New England we could see a repeat of the last 3 seasons in the playoffs: being knocked out at Foxboro Stadium.
Props to all the Section 8′ers who made it out to the game.

The lack of goals scored in soccer is the reason why American sports fans find soccer uninteresting.
