Reading the tea leaves: Remedial edition

By: Sean | March 30th, 2008

So you wanna follow a soccer team, but there’s not much coverage other than official stuff. Who’s hurt? Who’s playing poorly? There’s no answers you can find anywhere?

Well then, friend, do what I do! I call it ‘reading the tea leaves,’ and it’s easy and fun!

“That sounds so interesting, Sean,” you’re saying - and who can blame you? It is interesting!

Let’s start with an easy one. The Fire have a defender named Wilman Conde who has spent the last several months in tears, because the mean slavemasters at MLS tore his family life (with his old coach) asunder. All this after cruelly capturing him from his happy home in Colombia and spiriting him off to the cold and unfriendly hustle-bustle of Chicago.

The question before us is, how is Wilman Conde doing now? In answer, you have only this snippet of box score from yesterday’s season opener against Real Salt Lake:

Chicago Fire — Jon Busch, Brandon Prideaux, Diego Gutierrez, Bakary Soumare (Calen Carr 84), Gonzalo Segares, Chris Rolfe, Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Logan Pause, Justin Mapp (Stephen King 54), Tomasz Frankowski (Andy Herron 76), Chad Barrett.

Substitutes Not Used: Nick Noble, Dasan Robinson, John Thorrington, Daniel Woolard

Now, what’s your answer? I’ll give you a little time to - ok, time’s up.

If you answered that Wilman Conde is still crying, you win! Can anyone salve this heartbroken catamite’s pain? Can anything?
