Opponent to watch: There’s something that bugs me about Revolution striker Taylor Twellman. Maybe’s it his twee name. Maybe it’s the fact that he’s got a great strike rate without ever raising my pulse rate when I’ve seen him play (though apparently, he’s considered by some to be the ‘hottest’ player in the world). Maybe it’s the fact that it’s a shame he didn’t go to Coventry City when he had the chance several years ago: I can’t think of a more ideal destination for him. I should lay off him, as his father, the even more boringly-named Tim Twellman, was a former Chicago Sting player after all. But I think what most annoys me is there’s a fairly good chance TT2 will score this Sunday against the Fire, given he’s leading the league in goals and has a good record against the Fire.
The game: After their last game, Revolution manager Steve Nicol said “I just said that you know we decided to show up in the middle and play long high balls, which we felt we could deal with and that’s exactly what we did.” Football is a thinking man’s game, isn’t it? The Revolution play some pretty dull soccer, and perhaps that quote explains why. Unfortunately, except for the flashes from Rolfe and Mapp, so do the Fire. Mapp has been listed as questionable all week; by this stage last week, he was doubtful (and didn’t play), so I suppose there’s a chance he suits up.
I know, this wasn’t much a match preview. I just have this sinking feeling the Fire’s solid start is about to be derailed by Taylor bloody Twellman.

Every time I see Taylor Twellman, it conjurs up George Carlin’s bit on “soft” names.
