Match Preview - 04.07.06 - vs. New England Revolution
By: Tom | April 5th, 2007Season record: Fire 0-0-0 | Revolution 0-0-0
Last five: - - - - - | - - - - -
Weather: ~30F
TV: DK (national), CSN (local)
Key Fire injuries: MF Pascal Bedrossian (Doubtful - R hamstring strain)
Last meeting: The Revolution eliminated the Fire from the 2006 MLS Cup Playoffs following a penalty shootout.
Opponent to watch: Taylor Twellman, 11 goals and five assists in 19 games against the Fire
Reason #278 to hate the NE Revolution: their team website is so much nicer than the Fire’s, and even offers a game preview! What a novel idea. Well, at least I pinched the graphic below from their site.

Reason #277 to hate the NE Revolution was, of course, the last meeting mentioned above. Quite the rivalry has developed over the past several years as the two teams have repeatedly clashed in the postseason.
The Revolution, poor babies, are apparently still getting over last season’s disappointment in the MLS Cup Final, where they fell once again at the final hurdle. Perhaps they are trying to pick up the eternal losers tag dropped in New England by the Boston Red Sox in 2005.
The Fire have had an abysmal preseason, but there’s certainly a buzz around them since the signing of Blanco, though the Mexican star will not arrive for a few months yet. Hopefully some of that will carry over into the season opener, and the Fire will come out aggressive at home. The Revolution have a few injury worries, while the Fire may be missing just Pascal Bedrossian.
I’ll be 2,000 miles away from Chicago and unable even to view a television during the game, so it’s down to you, dear reader, to report on events on the gamethread I’ll open for Saturday. And remember to go and crow (nicely) over at the excellent New England Revolution Offside blog when the Fire win.
Post your final score predictions below! Mine? Fire 2-1 Revolution (Mapp, 24′; Twellman, 47′; Rolfe, 72′)

Rolfe in the 72nd? Are you out of your fucking mind? That’s totally irrational! I’d say more like the 75th. Bwahaha.
Nah, I’m picking a draw here.

I agree with you about the Revs’ website. I got to listen to the pre-season Galaxy-Revs game through their site. The Galaxy website didn’t report on the game for days.
And I’d be a little worried about encouraging your fans to crow over a victory on the Revs site. That same strategy backfired horribly on me after that same game.
