Fire are on, uh, Fire
By: Tom | August 18th, 2007Truth be told, the first half of the game against Real Salt Lake tonight had been pretty dire until Blanco controlled the ball in the 43rd minute, lined up a shot from twenty-five yards out and blasted a dipping, swerving, mean screwdriver of a shot into the top right hand corner.
After that, the Fire controlled the game, Blanco guarding the ball with the tenacity of a pitbull, RSL players nipping at his heels as the Mexican won free kick after free kick. The killer goal finally arrived in the 75th minute, Blanco’s curling corner nodded in by Wanchope, the finish showing the Costa Rican’s body strength to the max.
Wanchope and Rolfe did not really have the best of games up top, though their mere presence clearly gave Blanco more room to operate in than in his previous games for the Fire. It was alarming to see the Fire’s offside trap penetrated with ease a couple of times — fortunately, Matt Pickens was a man in charge between the sticks tonight.
But ideally for the Fire, the two-goal cushion allowed Osorio to bring all three of the Blanchopolfe compendium off early for a rest, and give Mapp a run-out ahead of a midweek game against Kansas City. The playoff drive continues there on Wednesday. Finally, the season has begun for the Chicago Fire.

This was such a needed win. Praise be to Osorio for installing this attacking mentality our team now sports. 1-0? GREAT, let’s score even more on them!
