Fire 1-0 Rev
By: Tom | April 8th, 2007
The unlikely hero for the Fire in their opening win was Logan Pause, often questioned for his attacking prowess given he had never before scored in MLS. Unsurprisingly, the source of the goal was Justin Mapp who crossed for Pause’s header, perhaps adding a little more sauce to the rumours of Premiership interest in the youngster.
And when your goalkeeper wins Man of the Match, it’s a sign your team was under a lot of pressure.
Coach Dave Sarachan admitted:
As the half went on, we got a little bit careless and dodged a couple balls in the box that Twellman almost got his head on. For an opening game, we get very high passing grades, but we have got room to improve in terms of managing and keeping possession and killing the game off.

A crowd of 15,353 was announced for the game; it’s unlikely that many showed up, given the nasty cold spell in Chicago this week. As I mentioned previously, I won’t be able to watch the game until I return to Chicago tonight, so for now, here are match reports from the official site, the Trib, the Sun-Times, Windy City Soccer, the Chicagoist and ESPN/AP.

Despite Justin being the obvious choice for “secret 5th member of the band Bread” he is quite good. How much longer till he’s playing in England?
