Dynamo getting Feilhaber?
By: Sean | February 14th, 2008Good lord, the Dynamo are apparently working hard to get Benny Feilhaber from Derby County on loan.
Is it me, or is the quality of the rosters in this league getting better very quickly? Here’s the midfielders Houston could have on the roster for opening day:
Brad Davis
Brian Mullen
Rico Clark
Dwayne DeRosario
Benny Feilhaber
Stuart Holden
Corey Ashe
I’m not even counting Richard Mulrooney, who’s one of the best six or seven holding mids in the league but plays at right back most of the time. That’s seven or eight starter-quality players for four slots.
Think that’ll help the competition in practice? Think it helps the coach to be able to play whoever’s in form, instead of putting the same four or five guys out there, regardless of the week’s work?
Bringing this back to the Fire – is this the price we’re paying for Blanco? Or is it more a matter of Houston’s well-established front-office shrewdness paying dividends? (And, if that’s it, where’s OUR stinkin’ shrewdness? Have we unearthed a pleasantly surprising player since Wilt got canned?)

Yeah, but Houston doesn’t have any forwards left after Brian Ching.

I was reading about this briefly this morning. The thought is to maybe moce him and DeRo up front but DeRo said in an interview he doesn’t want to play that or something. Either way, I’m not happy about this move because Benny needs to play for San Jose (it even rhymes so it must be true).

Why would the Dynamo do this? I could only see this making sense, if they’re looking to trade DeRo, or at least trade Stu Holden. There’s just no need for so many stellar midfielders. I mean Davis, Holden, and Clark are all on the current roster of the US team, while DeRo is the best footballer in the entire nation of Canada. Why add Benny, when what they really need is striker power x2.
