Blanco would be mad

By: Tom | April 1st, 2007

Maybe if we already had Blanco, the Fire would have offered more than another insipid preseason display against Chivas USA. The match report suggests it was a physical encounter, with former Fire midfielder Jess Marsch dismissed in the 67th minute. Another former Fire player, Ante Razov, scored the winner with a thirty yard strike. That’s six preseason defeats in a row now for the Fire.

Scoring Summary:
CHV — Ante Razov (Sacha Kljestan) 29

Fire Lineup (3-5-2): GK-Matt Pickens, D-Gonzalo Segares, D-Diego Gutierrez, D-C.J. Brown (Calen Carr 80), M-Ivan Guerrero, M-Thiago (Floyd Franks 81), M-Chris Armas, M-Justin Mapp (Bakary Soumare 87), M-Logan Pause (William Oliveira 72), F-Chris Rolfe, F-Chad Barrett.

Chivas USA Lineup (4-3-3): GK-Brad Guzan, D-Jason Hernandez, D-Lawson Vaughn, D-Alex Zotinca, D-Claudio Suarez, M-Amado Guevara, M-Jesse Marsch, M-Francisco Mendoza, F-Ante Razov (John Cunliffe 72), F-Maykel Galindo (Matt Taylor 62), F-Sacha Kljestan (John Thorrington 45).

CHV — Jesse Marsch (ejection) 67
CHV — Alex Zotinca (caution) 83

Well that makes us like 1-3 in preseason, but then again just remember that most of the teams don’t even play their full team nor do they really try as hard. This is a period to experiment. Just think of what this game would have been like if Bornstein were in it.

Here is the line up from the last time we met (about a month ago when you guys won 2-1)

    Lineups:
Chivas USA (4-4-2): Brad Guzan; Orlando Pérez, Claudio Suárez, Jason Hernández, Alex Zotinca (Lyle Martin, 82); Jorge Barrera (Jesse Marsch, 63), Sacha Kljestan, Francisco Mendoza, John Cunliffe; Ante Razov (Matt Taylor, 69), Maykel Galindo.
Chivas USA Head Coach: Preki Radosavljevic.

Chicago Fire (4-4-2): Matt Pickens; Iván Guerrero (Brian Plotkin, 57), Gonzalo Segares (Jordan Russolillo, 57), Jim Curtin (Osei Telesford, 57), C.J. Brown (Dasan Robinson); Chris Armas (Thiago, 57), Diego Gutiérrez (Bakary Soumare, 57), Logan Pause (Jerson Monteiro, 57), Pascal Bedrossian (Chad Barrett, 46); Chris Rolfe (Floyd Franks, 57), Justin Mapp (Mike Banner, 57).
Chicago Fire Head Coach: Dave Sarachan.

Certainly preseason shouldn’t be taken too seriously, but consistently losing is not a very good habit to get into. It also sounds like a pretty hard-fought game, judging from the cards issued.
