Blanco Media

BlancoOf the two highest paid players in the league, the media spotlight has obviously shone an awful lot more brightly on David Michael Beckham than on Cuauhtemoc Blanco. However, there is now increasing coverage of our Temoc, as Beckham’s farcial roadshow has sputtered, whilst Blanco has thrived so far.

And there’s now an excellent one-stop-shop for all the articles, video, and photos of Blanco being put together by the good folks on the Section 8 messageboard.

My favourite article so far, by the way, is this one by Grant Wahl.

What a shame that there seems to be no video of Blanco’s outstanding showing last week against Kansas City.

I’ve seen her in person, Anthony. I can’t disagree with you.

I think the media doesn’t care as much about Blanco because they can’t spell his first name. Yeah right! There’s one reason and one reason only they’ve pretended to care about soccer; it’s so long as they can talk about Beckham. It’s not because he’s a great player (which he is) but because of the teeny-bopper, talent-lacking “singer” he married who only married him so she could stay in the spotlight and not have to wait tables like the other Spice Girls.

Blanco, I’ve heard, is annoyed that he hasn’t been embraced like Beckham. He’s right to feel this way but should understand that the US is not soccer-mad like Mexico is and Beckham-mania is nothing but a fad among non-soccer people who wouldn’t know or care what a corner kick is even if someone applied it to the side of their heads.

I caught the Red Bulls game last night at Giants Stadium and was thrilled to see this particular player in person. He seems like a classy guy. (There was an episode where a Red Bull player complained to him for kicking the ball out of bounds on one of those Fair Play deals when a player is injured and the ball is kicked out. He shrugged his shoulders as the player pointed to goal. “You have to kick it to the goalkeeper,” he was apparently saying. A few plays later, Blanco had the opportunity to return the ball to New York again and he did as requested, sending a lob to the keeper. There was no attitude; no, “you want it, you got it.” On a side note, I’d prefer the throw in, which you can just lob to the keeper anyway. So much can go wrong on a kickback to the keeper. Red Bulls fans need look no further than the previous game to know how innocent touches can turn out disastrously.) He’s a great player and will continue to play for Chicago. As a Red Bulls fan, I’m just happy he wasn’t too present in last night’s game.

I believe Blanco deserve much more media attention….Blanco and Angel are two of the brightest shining stars in the league…..And then you have Jozy Altidore, he is one shining star the MLS needs to embrace and ensure that he does not end up like Adu…..I think it is great that the MLS has Beckham, but honestly I am glad that the David Beckham hour is over (At least for this year)…..
