Juan Carlos Osorio to coach the Fire?

By: Tom | June 22nd, 2007

I’ve been told that the favourite to land the Fire job is Juan Carlos Osorio, a Colombian coach at Millonarios and former assistant for Manchester City and the Metrostars.

He’s obviously got quite a varied resume, he’s young (46), and presumably speaks Spanish and English. Under his brief watch, Millonarios have improved and qualified for the Copa Sudamericana this year. That is all I know. Obviously, he’s also rather obscure.

Thoughts?

Update:
it seems Osorio would have been at the Metrostars when Guppy was working there. He received credit as an assistant for the Metrostars excellent 2000 season and the early part of Stuart Pearce’s reign at Man City (before he left for the coaching job at Millonarios).

He almost got the Metrostars head coaching job in 2003, and Ives Galarcep wrote last year that “If I could be an MLS GM for a day I would hire Osorio in a heartbeat.”

Sounds like it could be a good appointment to me.

I think he would be a great candidate according to the info you’ve given…I think having a billingual coach would be really good for the fire, considering the bulk of our players are hispanic or American…the only thing I would really want to see in him is ENERGY. That was always my biggest complaint about Sarachan, he never seemed to be giving out any energy-he never seemed excited, or angry, which I would think would make it difficult to inspire his team…Hey speaking of bilingual and emotional, I heard Ozzy has mentioned leaving the SOX….wonder if he knows Soccer?

This new is NOT true. Osorio has a contract with Millonarios until 2008, and actually, he is very happy in our city, Bogota. I m’ sorry for the bad news, but Osorio will stay with us. And thank you for the match. Will be your time the next America ’s Cup. (Colombia 1 - USA 0)
