Celtic to play in Chicago
By: Tom | April 17th, 2007
It looks like the Fire will take on Celtic on July 21 or 22 at Toyota Park. There have been rumours of this game swirling around for sometime, but there’s something close to confirmation from the Fire’s Manager of Media Relations in the Daily Herald of Glasgow.
I’m also glad to know that for the subeditor of the Herald, a game against the Fire counts as a glamour friendly. I have to say that this just adds to what is shaping up to be a great summer of soccer in Chicago. With the Gold Cup semi-finals and final in June at Soldier Field, Celtic-Fire in July, a Superliga game (Club América vs. Monarcas) at Toyota Park in August and a likely four team international tournament (Sevilla or Juventus, anyone?) taking place as well, there’s plenty to keep us occupied outside of Fire games and to build the buzz around soccer in the city.

I’ve been trying to pin down a date for this for a month. You’d think with the fact that the SPL season will be starting up, Celtic would be a little more specific by this point in the year.

It’s also very odd how hard it is to get information out of MLS teams sometimes - though I suppose there are logistical issues behind the scenes we don’t know about it. Do you think Celtic will play a strong team?

When they have visited the States in the past Celtic have fielded a decent team. They usually play hard for about 60 minutes and then bring on the young guys. They always draw a crowd too.
