The Blanco Watch: Day 2034
By: Tom | March 17th, 2007Over at ESPN Soccernet, Steve Davis opines that the Fire’s pursuit of Blanco is a Really Bad Idea.
Signing Blanco, the hotheaded, polarizing Mexican forward, makes zero sense for any club in Major League Soccer. He’s got bad knees and a history of bad behavior, and he certainly has wandered beyond his sell-by date. Ultimately, this thing is not going to end up in a happy place.
The amount of negativity pouring out towards this move is making the contrarian in me manifest itself and wish he’d sign, score a hatful of goals, and shut everyone up. Of course, the realist in me understands he’s just as likely to sign, get himself sent off, get injured (again) and saddle the Fire with a wasted DP spot for three years. But of course, unless one chooses to support Chelsea or Manchester United, being a fan has to be about hope as much as realism, right?

A warm welcome from the Man Yoo and Cola sections — the Fire have always impressed with their great fan base.

What a great blog! Welcome aboard, being a Fire fan is great.
Well it’s either greatly rewarding or greatly unnerving and often both simultaneously. Enjoy, and go Chicago!

Nick & Steveo - thanks for the welcome. And that great Fire fanbase is in large part thanks to Section 8 of course: the uninitiated should click on Steveo’s username to learn more.
