Blanco and Beckham article

By: Tom | April 11th, 2007

Please don’t mistake me for a real journalist, but I do actually have an article in print on the Blanco signing in this week’s Chicago Sports Review, an excellent local sports publication. In it, I compare the significance of Blanco’s arrival to that of Beckham’s and cover the different reactions of Hispanic-Americans and Fire fans.

You can view the article on their website here, or download a PDF of the article in print format here.

The article barely scratches the surface of what I have to say about the Blanco signing and the Hispanic community in Chicago, but luckily for you guys, I have unlimited space to work with on this very blog…

Nice article Tom. I think you’re spot on about the MLS needing to succeed with the Hispanic community. Whether or not he suceeds on the pitch, Temo should help the Fire put people in the seats.

I think the Crew have done well to (assuming the Schelloto deal goes through).

I just hope RSL can nail down a solid DP as well.

The Schelotto signing (if it happens) is interesting - I don’t know much about Columbus, would he have much appeal there?

I don’t know how large the Argentine population there is, but the deal seems to be drawing Argentinian interest in the team. My gut feel is that it will pay off.

I must’ve waited to long to click on the link. I don’t see it on the main page anymore. Can you give a direct link to the article? (Or maybe I’m just blind. There’s also that possibility.)
